It reads of the 2 transmission output shaft or the 4wd transfer case output shaft. Basically it reads how fast the output shaft is moving and sends that reading to the computer and the computer sends it to the speedometer. Without it the speedometer doesn't work.
The rear, or tail shaft, of a transmission has a seal around the output shaft. The drive shaft will have to be removed and the seal replaced.
How do you change the steering shaft in a 1990 Jeep Wrangler?
Without any mods, NO you need a stand alone computer to run 42RLE. Powertrain control solutions will build you one. You need the original wires from the tranny to the fire wall . Send the wires to them and they will marry it to their computer. I want to do the same thing. I would buy a tranny and Tcase as a unit out of a wreck then the splines will be correct. Jeep used several shaft lengths and splines. Don, virgo6281@yahoo.com
Remove the tail housing. Remove the snap rings on the output shaft. Remove the small snap ring on the weight side of the govenor. Slide the valve and pin out the oposite side. Remove the 4 bolts that hold the governor to the governor support. Slide the governor off the output shaft.
P0720 - Low Output SPD Sensor RPM Above 15 MPHThe relationship between the Output Shaft Speed Sensor and vehicle speed is not within acceptable limits. P0720 - Low Output SPD Sensor RPM Above 15 MPHOutput shaft speed is less than 60 rpm with vehicle speed above 15 mph (4-speed auto. trans. only).
Not directly, but I bet Advance Adapters has the parts to make it fit. But splines on the shafts need to match too. Check the Jeep blogs & see if anyone has done it yet.
You can if you remove the rear drive shaft.
Yes
You will need to remove the drive shaft to tow a Jeep with a tow dolly.
