Since they have a compression release, it is a bit difficult to get an accurate reading...you must get to +_350 rpms. if your starter is in good shape, attach jumper cables from your car to your battery which will provide the amps to spin it fast enough for the compression release to...release. To get to the point...if the engine is spinning at less than 350 rpms it should read 60-90. over 350...75 - 110. Another option to get an accurate reading is to turn the engine backwards. This will take the compression release out of the picture. You can do this by making use of a drill with a socket driver and attach it to the flywheel nut and turn the engine in the opposite direction, usually counter clockwise, through 10 or so compression strokes...compression should be between 80 and 110. Hope the helps
Based on everything I have read from Brigs and Stratton, and talking with some small engine repair guys I know, the 342cc engine puts out about 11-12hp, and the 420cc engine is about 15hp. Hope this helps.
Yes, and I highly recommend you use synthetic in an air cooled engine.

i have a 12HP ENGINE ON MY OFFROAD GOCART AND IT WEIGHS 130LBS ALLTOGETHER....IT RUNS AT 60KMH AT FULL SPEED.
The Wright Brothers had a 12hp 4 cylinder engine. It moved about 26knots or 30Mph
The speed of a 12hp engine in mph depends on various factors such as the weight of the vehicle, the gear ratio, and the aerodynamics. Generally, a 12hp engine can propel a small vehicle like a go-kart or a lawnmower to speeds ranging from 20-40 mph. However, for a more accurate estimation, a specific vehicle and its characteristics would need to be considered.
The compression ratio of a Kohler 12hp motor varies depending on the specific model and design. It can typically range from 9:1 to 10:1, meaning that the volume in the combustion chamber is compressed to roughly 1/9th to 1/10th of its original volume before ignition. This compression ratio helps improve the engine's efficiency and power output.
If the engine starts: Let the engine warm up for about 5 minutes and S-L-O-W-L-Y close the needle valve (rotate clockwise) until the engine starts to stall for lack of fuel. Then open the needle valve (rotate counter clockwise) until the engine starts to stall because of too much fuel. Set to half-way between the two extremes. If the engine doesn't start: Close the needle valve by screwing it in clockwise just to a point where you feel it stop - DO NOT FORCE IT!! or you will ruin the tip. Open the needle valve about 1-1/4 to 1-1/2 turns. This should be okay to start the engine and then follow the procedure above. If the engine hesitates under a load, open the needle valve about 1/8 turn for a slightly richer mixture. This is the basic standard procedure with nearly all Briggs motors.
Some extremely small microlights and powered parachutes can fly with 12hp engines, but they only go about 40mph with that little power, so that engine isn't popular. Answer: yes you can, no you wouldn't.
The maximum speed of the Citroen 2 cv 2cyl 12hp 1961 is 160 km per hour.
A 12hp Tecumseh engine typically requires about 1.5 to 2 quarts of oil, but it's important to check the owner's manual for the specific model to confirm the exact amount. Always ensure the engine is level when checking the oil level and adding oil. Using the correct oil type, usually SAE 30 for warmer temperatures or 10W-30 for colder weather, is also essential for optimal performance.
