Stay away from Jiffy Lube or any other chain lube shop. Take your car to a trusted mechanic or the new car dealer for service. You will in the end know it was done right by a trained mechanic and will not get ripped off.
To answer your question, in the Baltimore area it runs around $30 - $35 for the conventional oil signature service, the price goes into the mid $40 area for a synthetic blend, SUV oil or a high mileage oil signature service and then there is the full synthetic oil signature service that is from around $50 - $65.In 2014, a full-synthetic oil change with oil filter at Jiffy Lube cost me $77 before taxes and a discount coupon. This is $42 more than their conventional oil change. They offer a synthetic-blend oil change as well. These prices are not easy to find online. It is really hit or miss with Jiffy Lubes. Some of them are great, some of them not so much. I worked at 2 different Jiffy Lubes and I would trust the crews that I worked with, I don't know how they are now since it is 4 years later.Do some research on the Jiffy Lubes in your area, search every possible way. Don't know if this is possible or not, look them up at your local BBB.Some people will tell you to stay away from Jiffy Lube and all other chain lube shops because you may be trusting your expensive engine to an untrained lube jockey, but as someone who worked their way up from Lube tech to line mechanic at a GM dealer, there is no guarantee that you won't get some nube lube tech at a reputable dealer either. The dealers actually gives their techs less time (than say Jiffy) and they are working alone and they do not implement a check system like Jiffy. On the other hand I drove away from a Jiffy Lube last month with the fender protectors still attached to my truck. I kept them (handy).
FWIW, my Honda dealer here in Mpls told me the Honda brand 0W20 oil is SEMI-synthetic and NOT full synthetic. That seems logical to me because they charge $39 for a 0W20 oil change and to get full synthetic almost anywhere it cost you around $60 for an oil change. Full synthetic Mobil 1 0W20 cost $6.50 a quart at Walmart, so you are already over $33 just for the oil. Add labor and a good filter and your at the $60 mark.
No, Jiffy Lube does not replace thermostats. They only perform preventive maintenence services. You will have to go to a full service shop, such as Firestone or NTB to have a thermostat replaced.
depending on the mileage, a full synthetic or a synthetic blend is my recomendation. A conventional oil (standard) is good for 3000 miles. synthetic blend oil is good for about 4000 miles and a full synthetic is good for 5000 miles. If your tc is over 75000 miles then either a full sythetic or a high mileage oil is recomended. I bought my tc at 72000 miles and right away i ran an engine flush, tanny flush, coolant flush, fuel system cleaner and had a full synthetic oil change and the car runs brand new. Jiffy Lube Tech-
If it is the synthetic blend, you should change the oil every 3,000 miles. If it is a full synthetic, you should change the oil every 5,000 miles.
The 525 requires full synthetic oil. So you are looking at around 65-75 dollars at NTB or Firestone. If you want to do it at the dealership it will cost you around 110.00.
You can mix part synthetic oil with full synthetic oil.
If you can afford it, full synthetic. I use valvoline synpower, but any full synthetic would be good like mobil 1 or royal purple, but full synthetic really isn't necessary. especially for a daily driver. synthetic blends are the best of both worlds because they are cost effective, but better than conventional.
The best oil is 10w-40 full syn. If you go by the oil change indicator lights, use full synthetic. If you change it at half the interval, regular oil is okay, but I still recommend full synthetic. It should have a rating of ACEA-A3 rated.
1.9quartz, full synthetic
Here in Northern New England at the local "Oil and Go" today (January 2011) I saw the price for a synthetic blend oil change to be 64.95 plus tax. The price for a full synthetic oil change was 79.95. The price for a regular oil change was 34.95. I have not priced quarts of semi-synthetic oils at Walmart lately, but I can say the price of 64.95 is excessive when for 15 dollars more you can get a full synthetic oil change. It may very well be that today's semi-synthetic oil sells for 82 percent of the price of full synthetic, but I seriously doubt that. Rather I suspect the 35 dollar price of a regular oil change is to get people in the door, so they can be up-sold to an overpriced semi-synthetic blend oil change. After all, there isn't much money to be made in basic oil changes, unless your doing an awful lot of them. So keep in mind that when these folks checking your windshield wipers and air filters, it isn't because they are concerned about your safety or gas mileage. No, they want to sell you more stuff (stuff with a much higher profit margin than your basic oil change).
Use SAE 5w30 full synthetic. 4.2 quarts with oil/filter change. Use any major brand of your choice, but I recommend Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic.
