gear oil but not sure how much
The brake system uses brake fluid and the trans uses trans fluid.
The stock transmission for the 1978 Jeep CJ7 is typically the T150 three-speed manual transmission. Some models may also come equipped with the Borg-Warner T18 four-speed manual transmission, especially if they were ordered with the optional V8 engine. The choice of transmission could vary based on the engine and options selected during purchase.
TCS stands for "transmission controlled spark". It is a switch mounted to the top cover of Jeep CJ7 T150 manual transmissions that is used by the engine computer to know when the vehicle is in top gear. The engine control computer then advances the engine timing for better fuel economy.

3 speed TH-400.
Yes. Everything from the doors ---> forward was the same in the CJ5, CJ6, CJ7 and CJ8. The CJ7 is 2" longer than the CJ5 to allow for the optional automatic transmission, so the frame and body were 2" longer. The CJ6 and CJ8 were 10" longer in the back.
Yes and no. The older FJ 40 style is very much like the cj7. There are notable differences though. I have owned a stock CJ7 and FJ40 and the FJ has more bells and whistles and torque. Yes and no.
