If there isn't anything wrong with it leave it alone.
No. It has a timing chain. the timing belt on my 1999 corolla has just been changed. it depends on the engine type.
You bought the vehicle just in time for the it's timing belt changed. The belt should be changed at 100k miles.
you can not tell if the belt has been changed or not if not 100% get it changed its a fraction of the cost compared to a full cylneder head rebiled.
I am not 100% sure but that engine is timed via a chain which never needs to be changed.
If you have a worn timing chain that hasnt been changed before, that can cause the timing to jump and cause your car to run very rough or not run at all
The timing belt has been replaced with a no-maintenance chain on 2006 & up
timing gearsI've been told by more than one person that my '91 Cutlass Supreme has timing gears instead of timing chain. . I looked in the book and you should have a timing chain.
No. If you have incorrectly installed the timing components, you must completely disassemble all your work, and then, using a mechanics guidance, replace them in the proper position.
normally you shouldn't have to replace a timing chain unless you've been horsebeating your vehicle
My local dealer says the vehicle (mine is the GTP with the supercharger) has a timing chain. He quoted me an estimated price of $1100 for the chain, sprockets and seals. The sprockets should be changed because they support the chain. The recommended mileage is 60,000 miles. It's a good time to do a tune up also, if it's been a while. Some people opt to change their water pumps, if they are part of the timing chain cover. I don't know if that's the situation with the Grand Prix, however.
