are you sure its a cylinder? i just had to replace one of the lifters and cam in my 09 silverado 4.8L. the lifter had gone bad and wore into the lobe of the cam at 45500 miles. lucky for me it was all warranty work thru the pwrtrain warranty. it sounded like a loud bird chirping in sync with RPM change. just a thought for you.
probably broken bearings
can you elaborate? engine noise? stationary/moving? ticking, tapping or a definite knocking?
PULL YOU DIP STICK IS THERE ANY OIL SHOWING ? IF ITS TICKING AND KNOCKING YOU MAY HAVE BLOWN THE MOTOR .. GOOD LUCK
Knocking as opposed to pinging or ticking, usually means seriously worn bearings of some sort. Time for an overhaul.
that knocking sound could be the connecting rod knocking because of the bearing being warn out do to low oil pressure or no oil all together. also it could just be the valves. some people hear the valves ticking and think its knocking. i have had many friends think that. valves ticking is a simple fix. just look up how the valves are suppose to be adjusted then take off the valve covers and with a feeler gauge measure how big the gap is.
If it's knocking it's probably a rod going out - if it's ticking it could just be the valves - Rodeos are notorious for value noise...
There is probably too much clearance between the rods and the crankshaft causing the motor to knock. If this is the case you need an overhaul job on the engine. The clicking sound is probably cause from using too low octane gas or your firing is set a little too high. http://www.autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?UseCase=S001&UserAction=viewSimpleDiagInfo&Parameters=info answer knocking sound comes from worn bearings and parts in lower engine ticking comes from tappets, or more specifically the hydraulic lifters in engine ticking sound can also be a small exhaust manifold leak
distributor. If you hear any knocking or ticking, that's another clue.
Most likely is knocking. Try next higher octane grade of gasoline.
The knock sensor is exactly what it says. It senses any knock or ticking in the engine and retards the timing. The knock sensor is not the problem, the knocking is. Go to a repair shop and have it diagnosed.
a "knocking" noise could be your lifters. and the ticking when accelerating and letting out of the gas is the same thing. check your oil and if it's full then you may need to think about either having them adjusted, or getting new ones. depending on what you have depends on whether or not you wanna sell it
If a spark plug is not tightened correctly it will tick when the cylinder compresses.
