I was told to replace my brake pads because they were contaminated with brake fluid seems sensible but I'm leary the mechanic is just taking advantage of me any advice?
Your mechanic is right on the money. Brake fluid is typically a very destructive fluid, it can eat away many materials (don't get any on your cars paint) and it can also soak into your brake pads and lower their maximum operating temperature which could leak to brake fade or in the worst case, brake failure.
