Is it safe to run vehicle with a bad thermostat?

A "bad" thermostat is probably one that is sticking. If it sticks open, the engine coolant will circulate through the radiator at all tiimes, making the car hard to warm up in the winter, and slightly less efficient according to the laws of heat engines. If the thermostat is stuck closed, the coolant will never circulate through the radiator, which could cause the engine to be damaged by overheating.

What is the radiator capacity of a 1999 Jeep Wrangler 6-cylinder?

The 1999 Wrangler is equipped with an overflow tank. The amount iof coolant to add to the radiator is slightly less than 2 gallons. Be sure to use either a 50/50 coolant (pre-mixed with water) or a gallon of concentrated coolant mixed with an equal amount of water. You will have about 3/4 inch of coolant left in the container when the radiator is full. The overflow tank is there to hold coolant when the radiator gets warm and needs to expell some of the coolant. So just fill the radiator with coolant. You'll know when it's full.

What are the symptoms of a cracked head gasket on a 05 ford f250?

Overheating, oil in the water of radiator, water in the oil. Less power.

How do you add engine coolant to a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix?

Well, there are two place is can go. In the radiator and the reservoir. The radiator is the big black thing in the very front of the engine area. It usually has a silver cap. DO NOT OPEN THIS CAP WHEN VEHICLE IS HOT OR OVERHEATING, DANGEROUS...it says that on the cap too. If you are not good with pouring, then get a spout and put it into the radiator after you open it and pour the coolant in slowly. Watch for it to rise so as not to overfill. You also put the coolant in the reservoir this is usually a white plasitci container on one side of the fender area that says, coolant only. You can put water in there but far less effective than coolant. Do the same thing with the spout if needed and only fill to the lind indicated on reservoir.

How long should a radiator last in a 2006 Toyota Highlander?

If you change the coolant as recommended in your owner's manual and use the proper coolant mixed 50/50 with distilled water the radiator can last the life of the car. Neglect this service and it may only last 10 years or less.

Bad radiator cap?

A bad radiator cap needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Fluid can leak out causing the car to overheat. Constant overheating can lead to expensive repairs. The average radiator cap costs less than $10.00, so it's worth the investment.

Why After getting no heat or engine not warming up you replaced the thermostat flushed rad etc twice with the same result Overheating what else could it be on an 87 suburban Chevy 350?

If I understand this right, there were 2 original problems. 1-no heat, 2- engine not warming up. Now the new problem is overheating, correct? Overheating is usually a function of poor circulation or poor heat transfer, assuming the coolant level is at proper point. 1) Sticking thermostat - if open, no heat and poor engine warmup. if closed, no flow and overheating. 2) Radiator fins degrading and beginning to rust/corrode or come apart. This will compromise the rads ability to do heat transfer and the result will be overheating. Copper rads are famous for this, aluminum less so. 3) If the impeller on the water pump has become worn down, it will be less and less efficient at moving the coolant around in the motor. This will usually give overheating. 4) Last item is big problem - if there is a leak at a head gasket allowing combustion pressure to leak into the cooling system - this will cause overheating problems. Note: No heat if all else is good usually means a plugged heater core. Also, watch out for a slight drop in the coolant level in the rad tank as the pick off point for heater hoses can end up below this level and suddenly you have no flow thru the heater core.

Why does the engine overheat?

AnswerBecause the engine cooling fan does not work properly or does not work at all. There are many reasons which may cause Engine overheat. the above is also one of them.Loss of coolantloss of coolant because coolant leaks from anywhere on the cooling system.Loss of coolant because radiator cap is broken and will cause overheat.Loss of coolant because radiator cap pressure is less than the required.Loss of coolant because compression leak in to the cooling system.Radiator internally blocked. (Heat exchanger blocked, if equipped)Radiator externally blocked. (Air flow blocked)Engine Overloaded (engine can be overloaded because of loss of power due to malfunction of some parts, in this case there must have other symptoms).Thermostat does not direct water circulation to the Heat Exchanger.Engine mechanical condition is not good (Power balance)Engine ignition timing is retarded. After a repair Engine started to overheat.(AC or Radiator fan is rotating wrong direction, polarity changed)

1996 Ford Taurus overheating slightly water pump changed last year radiator flushed less than 6 months ago water fine no leaks. could it be the thermostat?

Yes, you should always replace the thermostat when servicing the cooling system. Also make sure the radiator fins are clean and not clogged with debris. Be sure to bleed the system as a trapped pocket of air will cause overheating. Make sure the fan motor is also operating correctly.

What could cause a 1989 Acura Integra to overheat after being driven less than 2 miles?

Water pump, Radiator, thermostat, low coolant, blown head gasket, busted hose. Could be one or all but I would check these first.

What is the coolant capacity of a 1988 Chevy with 5.7 engine?

4 gallons depending on radiator size a little bit more or less.

Why does the coolant-water in the 1996 Ford Taurus GL overflow to the radiator reservoir causing the coolant-water to boil out a sealed cap which was replaced along with a new reservoir?

When changed air was introduced to the system theres two little nozzles you have to open up and turn your car on to release the air. Let it go till coolant is constantly squirting out of both of those holes then while its still squirting out close them problem solved. It is also possible that the reservoir was too full to begin with. Most coolant reservoirs have a minimum and maximum fluid level which should be maintained. Too much fluid will cause overflow and too little fluid can cause the radiator to operate at less then 100% efficiency.
