If built after 1996, then yes.
Ilegal, check engine light, and running problems.
The check engine light will be on due to the empty catalytic converters not being efficient. On 96 and up vehicles the computer monitors the efficiency of the converters. Not to mention "gutting" a converter is illegal.
The Saturn Vue typically has one or two catalytic converters, depending on the engine configuration. Most models with a V6 engine usually have two converters, while those with a four-cylinder engine generally have one. It's important to check the specific model year and engine type for precise details.
A flashing check engine light indicates that you have problem that will damage the catalytic converter. You should have the check engine light checked very quick/tomorrow,if not sooner. converters cost over $800.00. You can't.
Your 1997 Nissan Altima typically has two catalytic converters. This includes one for each bank of the engine, as it is equipped with a V6 engine. However, if your model has a different engine configuration, it may have only one. It's always best to check your vehicle’s service manual for specific details.
The 1995 Mazda MPV typically has one catalytic converter. However, some versions of the vehicle may have a secondary catalytic converter, depending on the engine configuration. It's advisable to check the specific model and engine type for confirmation.
There is no reason to do this. Modern catalytic converters do not restrict your exhaust flow. All you will gain by breaking it out is a check engine light coming on that will never go away. If your check engine light is already on for a catalytic converter problem removing the honeycomb will not fix it.
Depending on what year vehicle you have, with 1996 and newer the check engine light will illuminate and spit out codes like P0420 and P0430.
They will still work with no converters. The O2 sensor downstream from the catalytic converter is there to monitor the function of the converter its self. So if you remove the converter, the second sensor will trigger the "check engine" light. The sensors (and the entire engine its self) is not effected, however. The light is basically just telling you the converter is no longer working, which is no surprise if it has been removed.
This was happening to me and the check engine light came on as well. I had to have my catalytic converters replaced, there are two on the 2002 Millenia S.It cost about $2,000.00 at the dealer and parts had to be ordered. Not sure if it applies to you.... The last 3 incidents I know of are basically faulty catalytic converters. Replace it.
