is there a sweet smell? Does the coolant level drop in the overflow tank and/or the radiator? if so, you might be looking at a bad head gasket. if there is slight white smoke(usually condensation) and no loss of coolant, then it is normal. once the engine (and exhaust system) gets hot, there should be no more smoke. if the smoke has a bluish tint it could be valve seals leaking. the best thing to do is take it to a garage just about when they close and leave the car with instructions to check the smoke coming from the exhaust the next morning. just about any tech. i know of can identify whether there is a head gasket leak, valve seal leak, or normal condensation burn off just by seeing it start cold!

What causes white smoke to come from an diesel mondeo exhaust during the first start of the day?

If it is only at the start of the day and disappears shortly after startup, it is just condensation in the exhaust that is burning off. Pretty normal, especially in cold or rainy weather.

Why do plane engines smoke when they start up?

Plane engines may produce smoke during startup due to the combustion of oil or fuel that has accumulated in the engine or exhaust system. This can happen if the engine has not been run for a while, allowing oil to seep into the combustion chamber. Additionally, during the initial stages of engine startup, the fuel mixture can be rich, leading to incomplete combustion and visible smoke. Typically, this smoke dissipates quickly as the engine reaches normal operating conditions.

Your exhaust emits white smoke and drops of water even when engine warms up but no loss of coolant or overheating?

If there is no overheating or loss of coolant, most likely it is due to condensation in the exhaust system (pretty normal in cool or rainy weather).

Why does my 2003 4-cylinder Toyota Solara have white smoke coming from exhaust 5-10 seconds after startup regardless of temperature though less likely when cold does not smell like antifreeze?

White smoke at startup (when the engine and exhaust have completely cooled down) is usually caused by condensation. It's especially noticeable in cooler weather when the car is used for short trips. The engine never really gets totally warmed up, existing condensation in the exhaust isn't completely evaporated. In short, what you may be seeing is simply steam vapor. If the smoke isn't white but is more gray or blue/white it's oil. A few seconds of oil smoke at startup is usually caused by leaking valve stem seals. Oil drips down the valves and onto piston tops when the engine is idle. On startup the oil is burned causing a few seconds of smoke. The puff of burning oil is most noticeable after the car has been sitting awhile, like overnight. Unless the seals are really bad not enough oil drips into the combustion chamber during shorter stops to notice any smoke. Cheers
