The red jumper cable attaches to the positive end of the battery. Make sure both cars are turned off before attempting to connect the cables and do not touch the metal portions of the cables together or to any part of the car except for the proper battery terminal.
You'll first attach the positive (red) cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Then attach the other end of the red cable to the positive terminal of the working battery.
Then attach the black cable to the negative terminal of the good battery, and finally attach the other end of the black cable to the negative terminal on the dead battery.
Make sure everyone is clear of the engine and moving parts before starting the engine of the good car. Allow it to run for a couple of minutes, revving the engine slightly. Then start the engine of the dead car.
Be sure to remove the cables in the reverse order of the way you put them on - negative first, then positive.
Red is positive(+). Black is negative (-)
Black negative red positive.
disconnect the negative (black) first then positive (red).
When jumping a car battery, the red positive cable should be connected first.
NO! positive is red and black is negative negative is grounded to the frame of the car, and positive goes to the electrical components.
Red/positive cable to red/positive cable. Black/negative cable to black/negative cable. The battery is under the cover in front of the air cleaner.
To safely jump a car when the positive terminal is red, follow these steps: Connect the red (positive) jumper cable to the positive terminal of the dead battery. Connect the other end of the red jumper cable to the positive terminal of the working battery. Connect the black (negative) jumper cable to the negative terminal of the working battery. Connect the other end of the black jumper cable to an unpainted metal surface on the car with the dead battery. Start the working car and let it run for a few minutes. Try starting the car with the dead battery.
