Rudolf Diesal
Dr R Diesel in 1892, A German engineer, Brent
the IC engine was first patented 1892 by Dr R Diesel a German engineer, Also credit has to be given a british engineer Dr Stuart who was said to have built the first IC engine that ran on a oil distillate though it wasnt patented. Brent
the diesel engine was invented in 1892 by Rudolf Diesel. the diesel engine was invented in 1892 by Rudolf Diesel.
Rudolf Diesel was a German engineer and inventor. He was trying to find a way to improve the internal combustion engine. In 1892 he invented the first compression ignition engine, which ran on a powder made of finely ground coal dust. It was new technology - mainly because it did not require a spark ignition coil nor any spark plugs - and he got a patent for it.From that time onwards it became known as the "Diesel Engine".For more information see the answers to the Related Questions shown below.

Old Fire Engine House was created in 1892.
The Diesel engine was invented by Rudolf Christian Karl Diesel, a German inventor born in France. He designed a single 3 m iron cylinder with a flywheel at its base which ran on its own power for the first time in Augsburg, Germany on 10 August 1893.Another answerRudolf Christian Karl Diesel, a German inventor who was born in France, invented and patented a new kind of internal combustion engine in Augsburg, Germany. It was given the name "Diesel engine" because he invented it.It ran under its own power for the first time in Augsburg, Germany on 10 August 1893. It was designed as a 3 meter iron cylinder in which a single piston reciprocated, driving a flywheel at its base, and used very high compresssion of the air and fuel mixture to ignite the fuel. The diesel engine was a new design because it did not need an electrical spark-ignition system as was necessary for the internal combustion engine (which had been invented by another German engineer, Karl Benz).YET ANOTHER ANSWERHerbert Akroyd Stuart designed and built a heavy oil engine in 1886. His engine design, operated as designed by him, that is, burning heavy oil as a fuel without the use of a spark ignition system, was the world's first viable heavy oil burning engine. Such fuel later became known as "diesel" and engines that ran using such fuel became known as "diesel engines", of which Herbert Akroyd Stuart designed and built the first and, for a long time, the best. This engine, with improvements, was put into production in 1891 with the Hornsby company of England and was commercially available in 1892.

Rudolf Diesel invented the 'Diesel' engine and they were originally used as more efficient replacements for stationary steam engines. The diesel engine allowed trains and ships to operate more efficiently with oil instead of coal. In 1892 a German engineer Rudolf Diesel patented the engine that bears his name, an internal combustion engine that doesn't require a spark to ignite the fuel-air mixture. In 1913 he vanished overboard from a steamer bound for London; his body washed up ten days later. Some believe he committed suicide and cite his neurotic personality and numerous breakdowns, and some believe he was murdered by either Germans (who resented his lack of nationalism) or by coal industrialists (who resented his engine). The first successful commercial diesel engine was built in the United States, thanks to the financial backing of Adolphus Busch, famous brewer of Budweiser.
The first engine-powered farm tractors used steam and were introduced in 1868. John Froelich, the inventor of the first internal-combustion traction motor, or tractor, was born on Nov. 24, 1849 in Girard, Iowa.
