The 2007 MDX has a technical service bulletin on this. Software has to be upgraded and on some units, the amplipher had to be replaced.
If you start on high heat it only takes a couple of minutes. But turn down the heat as popping progresses so you don't burn it.
clogged fuel filter , weak fuel pump , dirty injectors. try system cleaner first of all.
Check the vent on top of the transmission as it may be building up pressure and can not vent it.

Many things could contribute to popping noises in the exhaust when warm. The most common issue is running a car rich with fuel. With more fuel burning more back pressure is created in the exhaust and the popping noises is back pressure attempting to escape the tail pipe. How do you figure the starter is okay just by popping the clutch? Popping the clutch uses the driveline to turn the motor over. The starter is not involved at all.
