If the speedometer on your 1997 Nissan 200SX is not working, it could be due to a faulty speed sensor, a broken speedometer cable, or an issue with the instrument cluster itself. First, check the speed sensor located on the transmission for any damage or disconnection. If the sensor appears fine, inspect the speedometer cable for any breaks or kinks. If everything looks good, the problem might lie within the instrument cluster, which may require repair or replacement.
its old
The speedometer on your 1997 Sea Doo GTX relies on a pitot tube that measures water pressure to determine speed. If it only registers at 30 mph or above, it may be due to a blockage or malfunction in the pitot tube, preventing accurate readings at lower speeds. Additionally, the speedometer mechanism itself could be faulty or require calibration. It's worth inspecting the pitot tube and speedometer for any signs of damage or debris.
wish i knew have the same prob on my 93 377 peterbilt
It is possible that the speedometer on a 1997 Plymouth will only work intermittently because the gear is worn out. Sometimes dirt can get up into the area where the speedometer cable is housed and cause excessive wear to the gear.
Check for a blown fuse.
firstly you find the part off the speedo cable that's broken and then you replace it with a new part then you speedometer will work

The speedometer in a 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva may not work due to a faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS), which sends speed information to the speedometer. Additionally, issues with the wiring or connectors between the VSS and the speedometer can cause it to malfunction. A blown fuse or a problem with the instrument cluster itself could also be responsible. Diagnosing the issue typically requires checking these components for faults.
