You can buy a fuel disconnect tool at any auto parts store. The one I bought was only $4.00. It slips on the filter and slides in the plastic clip to disengage the filter. Be careful after you disengage because the filter will have more fuel stored in it.
The fuel filter is located right above the rear right wheel. However it is not that easy to remove because it has a strange clip in the front of the filter and you need a special tool to remove it.
Use a fuel/AC quick disconnect tool to remove fuel lines from filter. Plug fuel lines as they removed to reduce amount of fuel spilt. Remove 1/2" nut, located on outside of frame, that holds filter retaining clip inplace. Exchange filters and reattach retaining clip. Use quick disconnect tool to reattach fuel lines.
Your fuel filter is located in the Engine Compartment. It should be on the Firewall right behind the engine closer to the driverside of the car. Once you find it, there will be 2 retaining clips holding the fuel lines to the fuel filter. Take a screwdriver and pry off the retaining clip off the top. And there is another clip on the underside of the fuel filter. Then unfasten the filter retaing clamp screw and remove the fuel filter. Install in reverse order.
The fuel filter on all Subaru SVX AWD vehicles is located on the left hand rear side of the engine compartment as your are facing the vehicle from the front. The fuel filter is a black metal cannister mounted in a circular mounting device with a release clip. Release the clip and remove the fuel filter. There are two rubber fuel hoses, with hose clamps, that need to be removed from the filter cannister. Since these hoses are subjected to high engine temperatures, they may be semi-cauterized(stuck) to the filter intake and output ports. In this case it might be necessary to trim a small portion of the hose with an Exacto knife or razor blade in order to remove the hose from the fule filter port. Be careful to note the direction in which the fuel hoses were removed from the filter because they need to be reinstalled in exactly the same manner. Reinsatll the with filter by tightening the hose clamps on the gasoline lines and reinserting the filter in the mounting housing and tighten the release clip.
The fuel filter is located in the gas tank. Remove the fuel line. Next, remove the fuel filter retaining plate. Last, remove the fuel filter and replace with a new fuel filter.
Drain the fuel from the fuel tank. Remove the fuel line from the fuel filter. Remove the fuel filter plate. Remove the fuel filter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new fuel filter.
