Never just follow the ratings on the side of the tire. That's the maximum pressure the tire itself can take! Think of it this way...it takes less air pressure to support a light weight car (like a Corolla) than it does a heavier car, even if they use the same tires. A heavier car would need more air pressue to keep the tires inflated correctly. Look inside your glove compartment or your door for a sticker showing the the recommended pressure; for a Corolla, it's generally around 32 psi on a warmish day. Your tires probably have something like 44 psi written on them, and if you filled them to that limit, your tires will be rock hard, the car annoyingly bouncy on the highway, and your tires will wear improperly as well!
