Yeah, that pretty well describes my last 2 transmission failures - lead to a used replacement in my 87 Taurus and rebuild job on my 2001 Windstar.
Ask around at local auto parts stores, auto salvage yards, friends & neighbors (that like you) for a recommendation of a reliable and reputable repair shop.

I just paid 1800.00 for a rebuilt tranny for my 2000 windstar. I paid $1600 for a complete overhaul after my 2001 Windstar stopped moving (except downhill and a push).

You can find a transmission cooler for a 2000 Ford Windstar at most auto parts stores although they generally will need to order the part and have it shipped to your local store. In general, these coolers cost around 50 to 100 dollars.

I have a 2000 Windstar and it does this at times but it is normally when I start it and go to quickly not letting it idle down. Also mine has 322,000 with original transmission and motor and it has done it for several years.

Umm, short answer, no. Two completely different transmissions, controlled in two completely different ways.
