Change the transmission oil. If that doesn´t help, there´s not really much you can do about it.
Does the transmission engage when you shift it into drive?
the yolk is attached to the drive shaft by a universal joint. It slides into the transmission and allows the shaft in the trans to engage the drive shaft
It sounds like you need a new transmission. I had the same problem but I replaced the transmission and decided to trade it in.
clutch is slipping.
A delay in engagement when shifting into drive can be caused by several issues, including low transmission fluid levels, a worn or damaged transmission pump, or a failing torque converter. It may also indicate problems with the transmission control module or issues with the valve body. Regular maintenance and fluid checks can help prevent these issues. If the problem persists, it's advisable to consult a professional mechanic for a thorough diagnosis.
Your Transmission may need service, rebuilt. Try any major local transmission place. For example, AAMCO, exc.
You need to seek help immediately from a transmission professional. If you continue to drive the car with this problem you may do serious damage to the transmission.
A very short/simple explanation is: the Highlander is in front wheel drive until the computer sensor on the drive train senses that the front drive wheels are slipping (no traction) - the vhicle computer then sends a command to the transmission to engage the rear wheel drive axles - which then engage.
put trans in neutral and put 4wheel in gear then go to drive in stop mode only
your car probably has transmission issues. tow it to a transmission shop.
Simple, you put the transmission in D and that is all you have to do. With a Manual you have to engage the clutch and shift through all the gears over and over as you drive.
Shift the transmission into N first, then pull the transfer case into LO-LOC or HI-LOC, for a automatic trans, or 4HI, or 4LO for a manual transmission. Put transmission back into drive and take off. If your truck has manual locking hubs, they will need to be turned to LOCK to engage the front axle.
