If it is making a noise or leaking then it is defective. The only real fix is to replace it. You can rebuild one, but it is not advisable.

What is the purpose of a weep hole on the water pump on a Ford Aerostar 1989?

The weep hole is "an indicator of bad bearings and/or seals" in the water pump when antifreeze starts to drip or run out of it. If antifreeze is coming out the weep hole, change the water pump.

When the water pump goes out of a Toyota Camry does the Timing Belt automatically go bad or can the timing belt cause the water pump to go out?

the timing belt can cause a water pump to go bad if the belt is on too tight, because that will put stress on the bearings making it wear out rather quickly.

How do you know if the water pump is bad on your jeep?

grab both hands on each side of the fan blades while it is still installed on the water pump and try to shake it or wiggle it. if it wiggles or fells loose while both hands are trying to wiggle it then the bearings are bad and if not then the pump is good

Knocking noise when cold but after it warms up it goes away on a 2001 blazer can it be the water pump because i some problem with that as well.?

It is possible that the bearings are going bad on the water pump but you are going to have to listen to where the noise is coming from, whether it is inside the engine ( rod knock or oil pressure issues ) or outside (pump bearings or pulley issues).I lean toward internal wear or damage to the engine since the noise goes away when it warms up which indicates that when good oil circulation is present the problem goes away, bad bearings in a water pump will always make noise until they are repaired.

How do you know if the water pump is bad on your 2001 Subaru Outback?

A good sign of a water pump going bad is noise. It usually makes a grinding sound. Another sign is antifreeze leakage around the water pump. Some manufacturers put a small hole on the top side of the pump so that when the bearings fail coolant leaks out from this hole. Another good sign is high water temp gauge. When the water pump goes bad it fails to do its job of pumping coolant through the engine, hence the high water temp gauge. Hope this helps.

How do you check a water pump?

There is a drain or dribble hole in the case at the bottom under the shaft. Is there wet or staining? Yes means bad seal, replace pump.Grab the pump pulley and rock it up and down or side to side, any movement that you can feel means the bearings have failed. Replace pump.Spin the pump, and growl or scrape means the bearings are bad. Replace pump.A slight whine is normal on the spin test from the seal.
