Supply, return, vent.
The fuel pump is a mechanical fuel pump. The carburetor is connected to the inlet manifold. Look under this and the fuel pump is in the middle of the inlet manifold connected to the cylinder head by 2 bolts, It will have 2 or 3 pipes connected to it. When the fuel pump is taken off there should be a metal rod that goes into the cylinder head that works off the camshaft to pump the fuel pump. It will slide out so keep it safe.
The larger of the three is the fuel feed, the other two are for fuel return and evap. vent.
Look for the rectangular box with 3 lines connected to it, just in front of the fuel tank. If you follow the fuel lines they will lead you to it.
1. Disconnect the fuel lines. 2. Remove the bolt on the front right face of the engine block which is opposite (just forward of)the front (forward) fuel pump mounting bolt. 3. Replace this bolt with one that is 2 in. or longer and snug it down. This will hold the fuel pump pushrod in place. 4. Remove the fuel pump mounting bolts and remove the fuel pump. 5. Replace the fuel pump, replace the longer bolt on the front of the block with the original and connect the fuel lines.
To change the fuel pump on a Mazda MX-3, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and relieve the fuel system pressure. Next, access the fuel pump by removing the rear seat and the fuel pump cover. Disconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors, then unbolt the fuel pump assembly and replace it with the new pump. Reassemble everything in reverse order, ensuring all connections are secure before reconnecting the battery.
Drain gas drop gas tank, you must remove fuel pump as one it is call a sending unit there are 3 hoses connected to it be careful when removing
In the fuel tank. - It is mounted on the engine near the distributor. It has 3 pipe lines, 1 from your gas tank, the 2nd one is to the carburetor and the 3rd is return. Pump is driven by camshaft.
It's the fuel pump, the filter, or the relay. The relay and the fuel filter are pretty easy to replace - look under the driver's side door. The fuel pump looks like a metal cylinder with a black hose coming out of either end. The relay is a black rectangle mounted near the fuel filter, about 3"x4". The fuel pump is located inside the fuel tank, and it has a strainer at the end (if you replace the pump, always also replace the strainer). The fuel pump is on top of the fuel tank. Dropping the fuel tank is fairly involved. There are 2 straps under the car that have to be unbolted, screws inside the fuel door, and either 2 or 3 lines that have to be unscrewed from the top of the fuel pump. It *REALLY* helps to have the car up on a rack to do this. The fuel lines are prone to get stuck from rust/age and if you bend the lines, then you are scr...d... I got a sending unit and fuel pump for $65 from a junk yard, and a strainer from a car parts place for $15 (always get a new one).
It's at the front of the engine block on the passenger side. It's bolted into the side of the block & has a round brass top about 3" in diameter with 3 fuel hoses connected to it.
The fuel pump is mounted in the fuel tank tandem with the fuel level sender.
