When you turn the key to start the engine will sometimes turn faster than normal and or sound like there is no compression in the cylinders . whir /whir/whir/
No start, no compression.
No start.
engine cranks over but will not start.
No start, internal engine damage.
how can you tell if a timing belt is bad
If the water pump is bad, it will leak and your car will overheat. If the Power steering pump is broken the steering will be very hard and if the timing belt malfunctions, your car will stop running.
Sounds like a bad coil or a broken timing belt.
No, not necessarily. It depends on 'how bad?' If the belt has actually broken, or has slipped a few teeth, then it is possible that the timing is out so much, that the pistons hit the valves and jam the engine. The belt would have to be more than bad and actually broken. A worn or perished belt, will still allow the engine to work, right up to the time it actually fails.
There are no symptoms. The belt will just suddenly break. The belt must be changed every 90,000 miles. This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage. Neglect this service at your own risk.
There are no symptoms. The belt will just break without warning. You must replace the belt every 60,000 miles. Warning: This is an interference engine so if the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage.
Engine stopped suddenly without warning and will not start. This is an interference engine and if the belt broke you will have internal engine damage. Belt should have been replaced at 105,000 miles. If you have less than 105,000 miles it more than likely is not a broken belt. Remove the distributor cap and tun the engine over. If the rotor does not turn the belt may be broken.
that's sounds more like the serpentine or power steering belt. Your timing belt is internal and you wont hear it but you will know when its broken... your car wont run.
