The coils seen over (behind) the tires of a car are the springs that provide flexible movement of the axles/and wheels to smooth out the bumps when driving. Shock absorbers damp the motion so the car doesn't bounce like a pogo stick. Usually the shock absorber is built into the coil assembly to form what is called a "strut".
On a bicycle, the coils do the same job, and usually have a shock absorber inside the coils.
The coils on a ford escape are over the sparkplug type.
With those rubber bands for tires I woulnd suggest you over inflate. Tires need alittle expansion for bumps and potholes on the road. Car 28-32lbs. Truck/SUV 35-40lbs.

Yes, I have owned a set of 4 for over 4 years and I just had the tires checked, still has 90% tire tread after 30K miles! Don't listen to those that say if it's not name brand it's all junk, sometimes yes, but sometimes no and these are great tires.
Pneumatic will ride smoother, but you have to worry about a puncture and check the air pressure regularly. Run flat are expensive and do not last as long. I would recommend foam filled tires over either of those options. They will not ride as good but they are worry free albeit a little expensive.

Rubber tires are preferred to steel tires because if we had steel tires driving over the smallest pebble would be a very bumpy ride. Rubber tires are flexible and will be smooth when going over rocks. Not to mention, if we had steel tires the government would have to replace the roads everyday with the amount of people tearing them up with steel tires. Also, rubber tires wear out and that means you will have to buy new ones again..
