possibly your wheel bearing is on its way out
It is the alternator....
the wineing is probably the fuel injecters because that is what was wrong with my dads truck.
What kind of howling? Or is it a whining? Where does it sound like it's coming from.

Power Steering fluid is probably low.....mine was low and add some to it no more whining!
I'd try changing tires, worked for me.

Could be a tired power steering pump.
Have your brakes checked, rust or wear on brakes can cause grinding when turning.
The bearings on the alternator could be going bad. Remove the belt from the alternator then spin the alternator by hand to listen for grinding.
could be a center support bearing or a bad engine mount. i would check those first.
A few things could be causing a grinding sound when turning. It could be a cv axle, ball joint, tie rod end, or bracket pin steering.
