Carbon build up.
Carbon build up inside the EGR valve can cause a no flow code. The valve is located Ênear the center of the rear of the engine. It is held on by 2 bolts and a metal line.
Carbon build up. Sticky or stuck EGR valve. Vacuum supply line damaged/leaking. Faulty EGR valve. Faulty EGR Position sensor/wiring.
po405---egr flow sensor low input-- this basicly means that the egr or connections to it need attention. remove and clean egr to get carbon build up out of it. also make sure it is clean at motor side where it mounts to engine, if no carbon replace egr valve.
It's probably carbon in the EGR valve. You can either put in a new EGR valve or just create a small filter like a faucet aerator that catches the carbon build up. I've had this problem on mine and the answer always ended up being carbon in the EGR causing it to stick.
I believe the code your getting is probably p0401 which is EGR system flow insufficient. Pull your EGR valve and clean the carbon off of it if it still gives that code you may have to pull the intake manifold and clean the EGR passages in it. I had that code in my wife's Buick and had to pull the intake because it was packed with carbon build up.
Once the EGR is remove it can be soaked in carburetor cleaner being careful not to expose the wiring to the cleaner. Use a small stiff Bristol brush to loosen the carbon build up.
Carbon is clogging the egr port.
Generally, an EGR valve is found high-rear on the motor. They can quit working due to carbon build-up on the internal shaft which causes them to stick in the open position and are hard to clean. Try spraying DEEP CREEP into it to loosen it up, then move the diaphragm by hand. DEEP CREEP is sold by the SEA FOAM companay and is found at marine dealers.
I was looking up the same thing and came across these answers: ... "very well be that the egr valve is coverd in carbon. The carbon is easy to clean with a wire brush if you remove the valve. The main cause of malfunction in an egr valve is the carbon build up leaving it stuck open or closed! Simple huh? i have a 99tl that had the same problem. simply remove the intake and clean the carbon from the passages to egr. it not difficult, it took about 15 mins and have not had trouble since, good luck!"
Could be an EGR port clogged with carbon. Remove and clean EGR and EGR ports.
