When the back of the vehicle slides to the right while turning left, this indicates oversteer. To regain control, gently ease off the accelerator and steer in the direction you want the front of the vehicle to go, which is left in this case. Avoid slamming on the brakes, as this can worsen the slide. If necessary, counter-steer to stabilize the vehicle as you complete the turn.
If you are skidding sideways, turn into the skid. That is, if the back of the vehicle is trying to go left, turn left, if the back is going right, turn right. As the skid lessens you'll want to lessen your turn to match, until the vehicle is straight and back under control. Stay off the brakes during the skid until you are staightened out.If you are skidding forwards and the vehicle is straight, and your ABS is working, leave the brakes on and let it work. If you don't have ABS or it's not functioning, let off the brakes and pump them.
