Modern car wheels have a cast metal wheel, so it's all one component. Classical car wheels used to have spokes (like bicycle wheels) and as such, were made up of a central hub from which the spokes branced out - connecting to a circular rim, in the same way as a bicycle wheel.

Also, modern car tires are pressure fitted to the wheels, with lips hooking under a rim on the outerside of the wheel, because of this and advancements in tire design, we now have tires with no inner-tubes.
