"BLUE" smakoe on a diesel can be a little confusing, made worse by what era the engine comes from and if the emisions control stuff in the exshaust has been removed.

Old school heavy duty deisel engines for large trucks and rail locomotives, 1902 untill 1980's will put out green blue acrid smelling greasy smoke when cold or allowed to idle to long. Normal.

All diesels but out a pull of black or white smoke at start up.

Newer Diesel engines will only smoke blue if they have a bad injector or are worn out. For the blue to get through the polution control stuff since about 2008 means there is something really wrong.
