Usually a problem in the emission system. Hae vehicle scanned to determine the problem and have codes cleared
If coolant level is correct - could be a defective sensor
Ensure the light is switched to come on only if door open.

The check engine light (service engine soon) comes on and stays on when a problem is detected by the self diagnosis system of your vehicle.
Try to start car,it will stall out. Leave the key on for 10 mins. until the light stays solid. Turn the key off. Start the car.
