You will most likely get some of the response back in the trans, but you will have to find out what made the fluid burn and fix it or it will just happen again.
It means the fluid needs to be changed. The burnt smell means the transmission has overheated at least once. Change your fluid and filter and hope for the best. Transmission fluid needs to be changed every 50,000 miles.
When you pull the dip stick out to check the transmission fluid, If you can't see through the fluid on the stick then change it. If it smells burnt change it. If it is clear and pretty red then it is okay.
the tranny fluid will smell like burnt plastic bags and you will spend a lot of money fixing it
It means that your transmission has been hot and the fluid has overheated. If the transmission is still functioning properly then have the fluid and filter changed ASAP.
never seen soot in transmission fluid? does it smell burnt? maybe be carbonized transmission fluid, or metal from transmission and cltuch wear. I would change the fluid clean out the pan real good install a new filter as weel. Also put a magnet in the pan if there isn't already one
If all that was done is a fluid change--talke it back to the serviceman who did it! If an automatic has low fluid or filter in wrong, it won't go, and/or cause damage by not getting fluid where it needs to go. If You changed fluid; check level. Add fluid as needed. If you didn't change filter, then it is not the problem, as it worked on old filter. (Best to change it with fluid, though.) Also, look for any gross leaks from transmission. These must be addressed, too. The condition of the fluid would be important before you changed it. The fluid might have been bad, "Burnt". which would mean your trans fluid is bad and now the clutches have gone bad also. It is always better to change fluid often before burnt smell. If the fluid has a burnt smell to it, then been changed out. The new fluid will further damage the transmission, ie: clutches completely smooth, no forward or reverse, etc.
what millage will be change transmission fluid
To determine if your 2004 Lincoln LS needs a transmission fluid change, check the transmission fluid level using the dipstick while the engine is running and at operating temperature. The fluid should be pinkish and clean; if it appears dark, burnt, or has a burnt smell, it likely needs changing. Additionally, if you notice slipping, rough shifting, or unusual noises, these could also indicate the need for a transmission fluid change. Always refer to your owner's manual for specific maintenance intervals and recommendations.
to show (1) whether the transmission needs fluid and (2) to show whether the fluid needs changing. Brown to dark brown reveals burnt fluid and needs changing badly. If high milage it's a good idea to change the transmission filter and the fluid.
That is a symptom of a transmission that has overheated. There may or may not be damage. I would advise you to have the fluid/filter changed immediately as the fluid is not contaminated.
The transmission will fail.
check transmission fluid level check condition of transmission fluid,if dark in color it is burnt and needs replacing. other than that your transmission is wearing out
