A digital caliper thumb wheel is a control mechanism located on the side of a digital caliper, used to smoothly adjust and measure the distance between the jaws of the caliper. By rotating the thumb wheel, users can precisely set measurements without needing to apply excessive force, allowing for more accurate readings. This feature enhances usability and efficiency, especially in tasks requiring fine measurements.
A dial caliper give a measure on the needle of a dial. Digital shows you a number.
A digital caliper displays measurements on a digital screen, while a vernier caliper requires reading a scale. Digital calipers are generally more precise and easier to read, making them better for precise measurements in my opinion.
Remove the wheel. Unbolt the caliper and slide it off. Replace the pads. Put the caliper on then remount the wheel.
Check for loose or missing bolts. Check also for incorrect wheel rim, incorrect rotor, or incorrect caliper. year of car/truck ? if its a dodge truck look at brake caliper adapter for wear, check caliper retaining clips if their broken they will let the caliper move up in the caliper adapter hitting tour wheel hub . is the wheel right one for veh ? If you just changed the pads and did not compress the caliper piston all the way down. the caliper can rub against the wheel. The whole caliper floats and if the piston is not fully compressed it can hit the wheel with the new pads on.

A vernier caliper uses a sliding scale with a main scale and a vernier scale to measure length, while a digital caliper uses electronic sensors to provide a digital readout. Digital calipers are generally more accurate for precise measurements due to their digital display and ability to provide measurements in decimal form.
You need to remove the wheel, the caliper and the caliper mount. After you do that you can remove the caliper.
