20w-40 sae.. just looked at my owners manual..or on a colder days use 10w30 sae. the manual also says that.
Prescribed in the owners' manual is SAE 20W-50. The nearest best grade to use is SAE 15W-40.
20W-50 is equal to Sae 90 W.
Jeep Wrangler takes 6 qts. Jeep Cherokee takes 6 qts. The oil pans are fairly large on these vehicles. Additionally for those who need the proper viscosity information, it is as follows (directly from the maintenance manual): Above 30 degrees F ..... SAE 20W-40 or 20W-50 Above 0 degrees F: SAE 10W-30 or 10W-40 Below 60 degrees F: SAE 5W-30
Check out this URL: http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/ I believe your question will be answered there.
the answer is on the inside of the cover plate on the left side (sitting on the bike)cover the triangular cover. I have a 1982 Yamaha xj750j and it says sae 20w/40(above 5 c)sae 10w/30 (below 15c)
SAE 40 has a higher viscosity.
