Normally the overdrive fuction can be switched on and off in some vehicles
There is a button on the left side of the gear shift shaft, just underneath the shift handle (automatic transmission). Push the button to toggle the overdrive on and off.
I assume that is the button that allows you to turn off or turn on the overdrive for the transmission ( my Ford Explorer also has a button on the end of the gear shift lever for that purpose )
hmmm unlock to shift from park? Over drive off/on?
on the side of the shifter there is a od button
cant take off from drive got to manually shift automatic tranny
There is a switch to shut off the overdrive if you wish On the column shift the switch is on the end of the gear selector lever On the automatic floor shift the switch ( button ) is just to the right of the shifter The next time the truck is shut off and then restarted the overdrive is normally allowed
well,if it's an automatic,then it's probably an overdrive on/off button.
the S means sport mode there is a button on top of the automatic gear shift if pressed while driving it will make the car drop a gear and go in to sports mode it is designed for over taking if left on the car will eat more fuel in sports mode click button on top of gear shift to turn on which will make that S appear on the dash click again to turn off and light on the dash will go out
In Nissan Sunny (and some other cars too), overdrive is ON when the button is DEPRESSED and there's NO LIGHT in the dashboard. The automatic transmission will utilise all the 4 forward gears (the 4th gear being the overdrive that helps in fuel economy -- similar to 5th gear in a manual gearbox). This is the recommended setting for normal driving. When the button is NOT DEPRESSED, you turn OFF overdrive, and the indicator LIGHTS UP in the dashboard. In this mode, the automatic transmission will NOT shift into 4th gear.
To replace the light on the automatic gear shift of a 2007 Toyota Matrix, first, ensure the vehicle is in the "off" position. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry off the trim surrounding the gear shift. Once exposed, locate the bulb socket beneath the gear shift indicator and twist it counterclockwise to remove it. Replace the old bulb with a new one, reassemble the trim, and ensure everything is securely in place.
Overdrive is like 5th gear for cruising in most automatic transmissions, the common place for the on and off button is on the gear selector.
Look at the the vin# on the driver's door are it will have the G.V.W. If you are towing with a automatic turn-off the overdrive. most modle's it's on the end of the gear shift. Press the button and the O/D yellow light will come on at the end of the gear shift or in the instrument cluster. When you turn off the truck it will rest it self. If you tow in Overdrive you will Over heat the Tans. and Burn it up.
