PAPI light, or Precision Approach Path Indicator lights, is a system usually located on the left side of the runway. It provides lighting for an aircraft's glide path and can be seen from up to five miles away in the daytime and twenty miles away at night.

no, because if you are color blind you might see the papi lights as different colors. (the papi lights are the lights at the end of the runway) you would also see the false horizon as the same colour therefore not accurately being able to see if you are level.

A PAPI consists of four lights arranged side by side where a VASI is two sets of two lights, one set is placed in front of the other. Both provide a pilot with a visual indication of their hight in relation to the proper glide path.
