It all depends on your driving style. Faulty, sticking calipers can cause disk brake pads to wear prematurely, otherwise it's all a function of your driving style and how much stopping you do. You can get a little more mileage out of semi-metalic brake pads, and ceramics are even better so when you replace the old ones make sure you get the appropriate upgrade. BTW, some auto manufacturers use semi-metalics as original equipment. My experience: I put 70k on my car in four years. I have done the fronts three times, the rears twice. Fronts do more braking. I drive 100mph and wait until the last minute to stomp the pedal to the floor. I am MEAN to brakes. I used the cheapest stuff the first time, and did the full set one year later. Premium parts the second time, and it was two years before I needed replacements on the front again.
