when you step on the gas, just as the name implies more gasoline is fed into your engine which makes a bigger more powerful combustion (explosion) just as if you were pouring gas on a fire it would get bigger except it is happening inside the engine. also the revolutions per minute increase which means the pistons inside the engine are moving faster because there are more explosions per minute which makes it louder.
A car that is in good running condition should not make a clunking noise. If a person pushes the gas and brake pedal at the same time causing a car to make a clunking noise, that is an indication of stain on the motor.

could be a vacum leak in the engines intake or just road noise from the tires you cant hear when you step on the gas.
It's called: Your car is running.
Possibly a worn engine and/or gearbox mounting or exhaust mounting
What causes a car to screech is when you get too excited to go fast you step on the gas pedal or in other words you floor it! This causes the tires to regain grip on the ground and makes the screech noise.
...er, it's called the engine.
It sure does . Almost like a rod knock . But with a crack flex plate if you press and hold the brake pedel and step on the gas pedel just a little the noise goes away .. With a rod knock the noise gets louder and faster as you step on the gas..
Have your mechanic check the rear bearings for the grinding noise. If the noise is like a rumble strip then the torque converter may be bad. Mark VIII are know for bad torque converters.
if you turn the key and nothing is making noise check the battery if you are trying to start it and it is making noise press the gas a little bit so that the car can pump gas into the engine
