The a/c compressor may be on it's way out. Don't wait to replace it. As it is wearing out, it sends trash into the a/c system making it difficult and costly to clean out the system. Some parts can't be cleaned and have to be replaced. If it is not cleaned out completely the remaining trash will damage the new compressor in a short time.
Bad bearing in compressor? Bad bearing in compressor?
Loud noise is not a good description. If its a loud squeal turn the air conditioner or defroster off. If the squeals goes away the compressor or the clutch for the air conditioner compressor is locked up.
Have to determine what is causing noise - could be a bad compressor Have to determine what is causing noise - could be a bad compressor Have to determine what is causing noise - could be a bad compressor
Your air conditioner may be making a loud squealing noise because the AC compressor, which helps cool the air, could be malfunctioning. This could be causing the noise you are hearing.
There maybe air in the system, and its gathering in the compressor. That would be my guess, take it to a certified vehicle air condition specialist or your dealer.
If the clutch disengages properly then the compressor should not be running. Most likely the clutch itself is bad instead of the compressor.
An air horn has a small air compressor which generates a movement of air through the device at speed. When the user of the horn presses the button, the horn creates a noise.
The electric fans used to cool the engine are designed to switch on to full speed when the air conditioner compressor is being used. When you turn on the heater/defroster the air conditioning compressor also turns on to help remove moisture from the air. Since both when heating or cooling your car the air conditioner compressor is working the fan will be running at high speed and makes more noise.
If it's a creaking noise then it is most likely that your compressor is broken.
A bad compressor belt can cause a whistling noise while running the air conditioner. A bad engine can also cause this noise.
If the compressor is running, the blower is blowing, and there's no cold air, you need freon. If the whining is from under the hood, the compressor may be damaged. That's what happens when running without freon.
No answer for you - just want to state that our 2002 Caravan recently (7/09) starting making a load clicking noise when it is turned on. Belt looks good. I'm guessing its the compressor or clutch.
