9/10 it's timing. If in a combustion engine (assuming normal petroleum and not diesel) the spark plug ignites the petrol/air combination too soon or too late, the piston will slap against the cylinder head (commonly known as piston slap) as the crankshaft is not at top dead center (the absolute highest point that the piston will be within the cylinder before it starts downward) forcing the piston to have a lateral movement (side to side) rather than a longitudinal movement (up/down).
Technically the combustion is given as a percentage BEFORE top dead center allowing for the fraction of a section for the spark plug to ignite at which time the combustion of petrol/air will be when the piston is right at the top of it's travel within the cylinder.
Does the knock sound like it is coming from the bottom of the engine or is it more of a tick from the top? How quick do you lose oil?
if the engine is knocking really loud you probably need to overhaul the entire engine or get a new or used engine because loud knocking is not good
Your transmission fluid might be low.
Mine and everyone I have hears makes a knocking sound at idle, I wouldn't worry about it unless it does it through the whole rpm or is really lowed
If you want acceleration then get a turbo, that easy.
A loud knocking noise in the motor of a car at high speeds is most likely the engine. There could be another issue with the transmission if the knocking only happens at high speeds.
you broke it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dumb bo
owners manual say it could be normal, but carbon on pistons from my experience also cause knocking, when I remove carbon knocking stops,I have corolla with 1nze engine.
check oil level. go to engine shop.
Noise coming from engine in Oldsmobile Cutlass could be as a result of an oil leak in the rear of your engine. This makes the gears to wear off leading to severe knocking noise.
Woodpeckers are known for making a knocking sound, especially during the early morning or at night when they are more active. Their rhythmic tapping on trees or structures can be mistaken for repetitive knocking sounds.
If your car makes a knocking notice referred to as "engine knock" then you left your engine on low oil for too long and your engine is now toast. It's like you had a piece of sandpaper rubbing a nice table with a clear coat. If you don't maintain the clear coat the paper will eat the wood.
