Where is the oil dipstick located on a Honda CR-V?

If it is on an earlier model CRV it is located behind the exhaust manifold at the center front of the engine. This is really stupid engineering by Honda because the dipstick tube is hidden down low behind it. You can't see it in the dark, or dim light. What happens with the steel dipstick in that location is that the constant hot/cool temps rapidly rust the dipstick until it breaks off. This happened to mine. A new one is around $30. I have never ever had a dipstick tube rust off, and I have owned about 40 cars. I much prefer the German engineering of my VW.

Why does saltwater make a nail rust?

It's not just saltwater that makes a nail rust, even water makes a nail rust. Rust is simply oxidation, it happens when oxygen comes into contact with something and creates a chemical reaction and creates "oxides". Iron + oxygen = Iron oxide (red rust on steel)
