To change the crankshaft position sensor of the 1999 Tahoe, you must first disconnect the negative battery ground cable to avoid accidents. Then, remove the wire harness from the sensor, disconnect the wires, and pry out the bolt. Place the new sensor in the same area, replace the bolts, and reconnect the wires. Test the sensor to see if it is working.

It is mounted on the passenger side/right side in the timing cover. one bolt holds it in place.
Others have had problems with the crankshaft pulley bolt on their Kia Sorento damaging the crank sensor. This can happen if the bolt breaks. The timing belt can be damaged as well.
The crank shaft position sensor is located on the lower portion of the timing cover to the left side of the crank pully if facing the engine. You will see a two wire harness that comes down around the a/c compressor that pluggs into the sensor. Remove the wire by squeezing the tab with your fingers and pulling away from the sensor. The sensor is held in by one eight mm bolt. After you remove the bolt twist and pull the sensor until it comes out of the hole. To install, reverse removal procedure.

The crank position sensor (ckp) is located at the back of the motor,driver's side, mounted to the transaxle housing. It gets it's single from the flywheel teeth. First unplug it and then remove the retaining bolt and pull it up and out. Reverse precedure to install.
