The fuel system on a Briggs and Stratton engine works by fuel being gravity feed from the fuel tank. Fuel goes to the carburetor where air and gas the mix, after the air and fuel mix it is feed into the engine where the engine goes through the four strokes.
why does my 4.75 BRIGGS & STRATTON lawnmower engine idles high and low when cutting my grass
You can adjust the valves on your 17 horsepower Briggs and Stratton engine by turning the adjustment screws. The adjustments screws will determine how much fuel goes into the piston chamber.

goes to kill switch
Check your timing if you have sheared a key on the fly wheel it might : 1.just work if the plug is out because it might just have enough friction to turn. 2.Your valve seals are letting oil threw and it is dead heading on compression stroke. The list goes on. Hope this helps.
Oh, dude, wiring diagrams? That's like the IKEA instructions of small engines. You're gonna need a degree in electrical engineering just to figure out which wire goes where. But hey, if you're feeling adventurous, good luck untangling that mess!
Do you have a wire that goes to the top of the engine then yes you have a spark plug
