Overfilling the fuel tank with gas could be a reason.
The vapor canister is under the vehicle, mounted next to the fuel tank.
According to the PT Cruiser service manual the vapor cannister is on the fuel tank.
Any leak in the fuel vapor recovery system.
The canister vent valve is located near the fuel tank. The canister purge valve is located on the engine.
That should be the vapor control canister assy.
The Evaporative Emission Control System monitors the fuel vapor flow between the engine intake manifold and the EVAP canister. The system failure occurs when a leak or blockage between the intake manifold, the EVAP canister purge valve and the EVAP canister is detected by the PCM. Code P1443 Possible Causes: - Pinched, blocked or plugged fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister) - Damaged EVAP canister - Disconnected, cracked or cut fuel vapor tubes/hoses (except between fuel tank and EVAP canister) - Damaged EVAP canister purge valve
Fuel leak? Charcoal canister?
YES! The function of the evaporative emissions control system is to draw fuel vapors from the gas tank and fuel system, store them in a charcoal canister and route them to the intake manifold during normal engine operation. The most common symptom of a fault in the evaporative emissions system is a strong fuel odor. Check all hoses connected to it and the canister itself. Replaced needed parts. See a Jeep repair manual for details to fix yourself (easy) or take it to a dealer.
Underside of the trunk! 4 11mm bolts hold protective cover.
# Disconnect negative battery cable # Raise truck and secure it # Remove the fuel tank # Disconnect the vapor hoses from the canister and remove the canister retaining nut then remove the canister
Failed emmisions test and real bad fuel economy.
P0442 - EVAP CONTROL SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED ( SMALL LEAK ) possible causes : - damaged , cross threaded or loosely installed fuel filler cap - aftermarket EVAP hardware such as a fuel cap not conforming to Ford specifications - small hole or cut in fuel vapor hoses / tubes - canister vent solenoid stays partially open on closed command - loose fuel vapor hose / tube connections to EVAP system components - EVAP system component seals leaking ( EVAP canister purge valve , fuel tank pressure sensor , canister vent solenoid , fuel vapor control valve tube assembly or fuel vapor vent valve assembly )
