On the Ford Triton engines a separate coil is used for each cylinder. The coils are mounted over the top of the spark plugs. To access the spark plugs, remove the screws that secure the coils to the top of the cylinder heads and gently pull up on the coil to remove it and the short 3-4 inch plug wire that attaches the coil to the plug. A special knuckle joint or flex extension will be required to remove some of the plugs located at the rear of the engine.
There are 4 spark plugs on the drivers side of the truck, four on the passenger side of the truck.
i know if you have the 5.4L V8 you will have coil packs. not spark plugs
The 1999 Ford F-150 2WD with a 4.6L Triton V8 typically uses Motorcraft SP-493 spark plugs. These are platinum-tipped plugs, which provide durability and better performance. Always verify with your vehicle's owner manual or a parts supplier for the most accurate information.
They are on top of the cylinder head below the coil packs. If you are replacing them it will be BEST to use Motorcraft plugs and to put anti-seize on the threads.
Screwed in the heads.
The spark plug firing order for the 4.2 L V6 engine is ( 1 - 4 - 2 - 5 - 3 - 6 )
I believe the dealership gets 190.00 time and plugs
The 4.6 L Triton wasn't used in the F-150 until 1997
