it will work but you have to use a pressure regulator in line so you can set the fuel pressure down to 6 psi. for the carburetor

Sounds like a fuel delivery problem. Could be a faulty fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuse, fuel pump electrical circuit, dirty fuel filter and even could be out of gas.
