Do you have a 4.0l (6 cyl) or a 4.7l (V-8). I just changed one on a 2001 with the 4.7L v-8. It is located on the passengers' side behind the starter. on the 4.0 it is located on the top of the bell housing on the drivers side.

Usually a crankshaft sensor is located on the bellhousing of the transmission
"how do you change a throttle position sensor on a 1998 jeep grand Cherokee?" could someone without any experience do it?
The crank position sensor on a Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.1 TD (WJ) is typically located on the engine block, near the transmission bellhousing, towards the rear of the engine. To remove it, first disconnect the battery, then unplug the sensor's electrical connector. Use a socket or wrench to remove the mounting bolt and gently pull the sensor out from its location. Ensure to replace any O-rings or seals if applicable when installing a new sensor.
It is above the starter. You must remove the started to get at the CPS. There is one bolt that holds the CPS in the block.
