The crankshaft sensor is behind the Starter. You have to remove the starter to get to it. You may be able to see it from underneath the car. I had to replace one today..It's a pain in the neck but my car is running great..

The 1995 Pontiac Grand Am 3.1 liter engine crank shaft sensor is located inside of the rear engine cover. You will need to remove the rear engine cover in order to access the crankshaft sensor.

Any crankshaft is inside the engine bolted to the bottom of the engine block. Visually from the outside it would be in the center of the engine horizontally, right where the oil pan meets the engine block.
