if one was put on the car it should be in-line. you should find it in the hose leading to the carb just before the hose goes in to the carb. if you don't see one there you should put one there.
The super beetle was not put into production until 1971, there is no such vehicle as a 1964 super beetle.

The Super Beetle has a slightly longer body (front end) and more modern McPherson front suspension instead of the torsion tube type.
A 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle typically holds about 2.5 quarts (approximately 2.4 liters) of oil when using an oil filter. If you are including the oil filter change, it may require around 3 quarts (2.8 liters). Always consult the owner's manual for specific recommendations for your vehicle.
There isn't an external oil filter on a STOCK Beetle. There is a screen that is suggested to be cleaned/replaced. There is a plate that the drain plug is screwed into that has 8 or so small bolts that holds it in. Just order a "Beetle Oil filter Kit" and it will have it all included. If you have an aftermarket external filter then it will usually take a Pennzoil PZ1 or a Fram PH8A filter.
There are several potential reasons your 1974 Volkswagen Super Beetle won't start. Common issues include a dead battery, faulty ignition switch, or problems with the starter motor. Additionally, check for fuel delivery issues, such as a clogged fuel filter or an empty gas tank. Inspecting these components can help identify the specific cause of the starting problem.
