All of todays vehicles with Fuel injection have an electric fuel pump mounted inside the fuel tank. The reason for this is that gasoline in its natural state is cool and this helps to keep the pump cool and not overheat. Another reason to not habitually run below a 1/4 of tank on your fuel gauge. While this may not be the news you want to hear, to replace the pump requires the removal or the tank to access the pump. Replacement pumps can range from 80 to 200 dollars depending on the particular vehicle. Be sure to replace the filter and strainer when doing this. Shops generally charge anywhere from 250 to 500 dollars for the complete job. While this may seem high just think of it as 2 car payments and no more.
