The 1985 Lincoln Town Car fuel pump reset switch can be found in the fuse box. The reset switch will be at the bottom of the third column.

Yes this is a safety feature found on some cars that is an inertia switch. Power is cut to the fuel pump whenever the car is in an accident. You push the switch to reset it and restore power to the pump. There is also a fuel pump relay, that is sometimes called a switch, although it is not actually a switch. the fuel pump reset switch is usally located in the trunk;on most vechiles some are located in the passenger side kicker pannell in floorboard. if the vehicle becomes inverted or hit really hard from eather side or end this is the reason for this switch is to disable the car.
I remember reading that there is a reset switch in the trunk of my 1998 Mustang. If the car gets in a wreck the fuel pump will shut off and you have to flip the switch in the trunk to get it to start.

Check in the trunk on the left or right side behind the trim panel. There is usually a small reset button for it. The switch trips in case of a collision to stop the fuel pump.
