I have a 2002 escape so I imagine it's not much different. There is a pan on the driver's side of the engine up towards the front by the radiator. It is sitting vertically facing the front of the car.
I went through the painstaking process of pulling mine off to find the transmission filter only to find it didn't have a filter. Everyone told me it had a filter, even the dealer. All lies =) Don't waste 3 hours of your time pulling that thing off and then trying to get it back on.
The 2003 Elantra does not have a transmission filter.
The transmission filter on a 2003 Honda Odyssey is located inside the transmission. To access it, you typically need to remove the transmission pan, which is located on the bottom of the transmission. Once the pan is off, you can replace the filter, which is usually mounted to the transmission body. Be sure to replace the transmission fluid and gasket when reassembling.
The filter is inside the transmission and is not to be serviced. Just drain fluid and replace.

To change the transmission filter on a 2003 Ford Escape, first, ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and raise it securely using jack stands. Drain the transmission fluid by removing the transmission pan bolts and carefully lowering the pan to avoid spillage. Replace the old filter, ensuring the new one is properly seated, then clean the pan and replace the gasket before reattaching the pan. Finally, refill the transmission with the appropriate fluid through the dipstick tube.
The 2003 Ford Escape has a 5-speed manual.
