The first wet vacuum cleaner was invented by John S. Thurman in 1901. His device, known as the "pneumatic carpet renovator," used a motor to create suction and was designed primarily for cleaning carpets and upholstery by extracting dirt and debris. Although it was not commercially successful, Thurman's invention laid the groundwork for modern vacuum cleaners.
